Mikel’s Pharmacy

Construction date: documented 1991*

Current name:

Mikel’s Pharmacy

Style:

Arcaded block, Postmodern.

This dry-vit clad building has an irregular massing and arrangement of architectural features. Efforts were made to retain entrances as they once existed.

Historical Summary:

A variety of tenants have been located in this prime location fronting Fountain Square. These include "Golden Bell" and "Royal Jewelers." Mikel's Pharmacy is the present tenant and has been here for some time.

The present building was constructed in 1991 after a prior building was destroyed by fire the year before. This is a replacement building of similar massing on the same site. The rear property line was shortened, however, to reflect restrictions associated with building in a flodplain. Portions of the stained glass from the earlier building were salvaged and are on view inside over the pharmacy counter.
