The first owner was Captain Daniel Sith Harris who arrived in Galena in 1823. He was a miner and a lieutenant in the army; he commanded a company in the Blackhawk War in 1832. He he was a steamboat owner and captain of the "Grey Eagle"

The building has a cross gable roof clad in asphalt shingles. Windows are original wood 1/1 double- or single-hung, poined arch. The porch is original or historic, Full-width, one-story; Brick materials; Half-hipped roof; Chamfered supports. Doors are original or historic wood glazed, paneled with transom, sidelights, pilasters.
