The Abilene Commercial Historic District was listed in the National Register of Historic Places on December 18, 1991. When it was listed, the District had 26 contributing buildings and structures including the Texas & Pacific Railway Depot, the Grace (Drake) Hotel, the Alexander Building, and the Wooten Hotel. The District is the most concentrated and intact collection of early 20th century commercial historic buildings in downtown Abilene.
